DEMARCATION OF THE LAND BORDERS AND DETERMINATION OF OFFSHORE BORDER LINES, Saudi Arabia/Qatar

The State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia decided to modify the border lines for part of their common border. The existing border lines were demarcated in 1996-1998 and mapped by IGN France International. Ten years after the completion of this first demarcation of the border between Saudi Arabia and Qatar, IGN France International, export subsidiary of the French National Geographic Institute (IGN), has been awarded a new tender that will carry on from the previous project.

IGN France International will indeed be supported by the technical skills of several of IGN France's departments, benefiting from their expertise in geodesy and levelling, the acquisition and processing of satellite images, the production of orthoimages and 2D restitution, not to mention the Cartographic Department which will work on the land and sea mappings aspects of the project.

SUPERVISION FOR THE CREATION OF A GEODETIC NETWORK, Cameroon

Last December, IGN France International was awarded the technical assistance contract for the supervision of work leading to the update of the country's geodetic network. The work will be completed by the Fugro Geoid company.

The updating of this geodetic network clearly stands out as a priority defined in the action plan created by the government for the period from 2010-2020. Even though each city had its own local network, these networks were not connected to each other, nor were they united on a national level. They were not at all compatible with modern positioning technologies, more specifically with GPS.

The goal of the current project is thus to complete 25 reference pillars (approximately 1 pillar per 200 kilometres) and a complementary network made up of 500 points over the entire country (10 regions, 58 departments and 378 towns)

ASECNA, Africa

This project was completed in 2008 after preliminary works dating from 2003-2004. The goal of the new phase was to mark, observe and publish the measurements and calculations completed on aeronautic equipment of 55 of the 100 national and international airports managed by the ASECNA in 18 different African countries.

• Marking and establishment of 3 points minimum in each airport, chosen for their intervisibilityCalculation of the geodetic lines between the IGS stations and a main point in each airport Definition of a methodology and a classification for the different ground types •  GPS or theodolite observations of the aeronautic equipment of the 55 airports • Calculations in the WGS 84 system of the coordinates of each point (more than 1,000 points)Drafting, publication and submission of the 55 reports on paper and digitally, with more than 1,000 descriptive sheets

TOPOGRAPHIC AND LAND PROJECT, French Polynesia  

 

IGN France International was chosen to completely revise the Polynesian geodetic network, representing 360 points spread out over a surface area equivalent to Europe.
Training was provided by the geodetic specialist from the IGN. The training program focused on GPS systems, the collection of information in the field, processing this information and its applications. The training was given to several agents from the topographic section of the Service for Urbanism .

IMPLANTATION OF A GEODETIC NETWORK,Sudan

The Dams Implementation Unit confided the determination of 14 reference points, spanning the 1,500 km around the Nile fin Sudan, linked to international geodetic references and more than 1,000 detailed points to IGN France International. Their definition by GPS, leveling and gravimetry for others allowed to have the known points at our disposal with a centimetric accuracy as well as a centimetric geoid model for the entire project.

  CONTINUED SURVEILLANCE OF BUILDINGS DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF SUBWAY LINES, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Denmark 

As part of the construction of new transportation infrastructures, it is imperative to be able to detect any disruptions in the neighboring buildings before they become irreversible. IGN France International thus instaled hundreds of automatic measuring stations able to determine thousands of points. These installations allowed the almost instant detection of milimetric movements, and where necessary, the initiation of early warning systems.

INSTALLATION OF PERMANENT STATIONS FOR THE MODERNISATION OF THE COUNTRY'S CADASTRE, Dominican Republic

The Ministry of Justice wished to implement a network of 4 permanent GPS stations. IGN France International installed the stations as well as the data server, then implemented an online diffusion system.
Maintenance of the stations was given during a 4 year period.
