In October 2019 the IGN FI / BRLi consortium was awarded a regional contract to assess hazards, vulnerabilities and risks in the Member States of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS). This is the international organisation promoting economic, social and cultural development in the following Member States: Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Rwanda and Sao Tome & Principe.
The overall objective of the project was to contribute to gaining a better understanding of the hazards, vulnerabilities and risks in Central Africa, to identify those areas where there are serious hydro-meteorological risks and to facilitate decision-making with regard to protective measures for populations and community assets.
The project is now almost completed. The IGN FI / BRLi consortium will be presenting the principal results on 29 and 30 March at a presentation seminar to be held by videoconference. Participants in the workshop will include the national ECCAS representatives and notably the disaster risk reduction (DRR) focal points together with the experts involved in carrying out the project (mapping and climatology experts, hydrologists, geologists, etc). The event will be the opportunity to present the methodology used for data collection as well as the data processing operations carried out in order to assess the different natural risks being studied.
Finally, there will be a detailed presentation of the risk atlas produced in the framework of the project.
