On 21 July 2021 the consortium IGN FI – GEOFIT and Défis & Stratégies launched project activities for the Abidjan District Address Project (Projet d’Adressage du District d’Abidjan – PADA). The PADA project is intended to take 36 months and covers the 13 communes of the Abidjan District, divided into 5 zones.
For each zone, the activities planned for the door numbering and street and lane signage operations are forecast to take place over a period of five months. Address system operations in the test zone will begin on 25 October 2021 and will take 3 months. For this test phase, 10 operators (5 supervisors and 5 field agents) will be trained and worked in the field.
It should be noted that an awareness-raising plan will support the operators in the field within the framework of the project. This will ensure that operators work in a framework that respects good practices, particularly environmental, social and health practices, while providing reassurance to local residents so as to facilitate the smooth running of the technical activities.
The PADA project will be officially inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Ivory Coast in November 2021.
The Abidjan District address system operations are being implemented by the Addressing Centre, a structure that is integrated into the National Office for Technical Studies and Development (Bureau National d’Études Techniques et de Développement – BNETD). It provides public project management (MOEP) and comprises:
- the BNETD Permanent Local Team
- the international technical assistance consortium (IGN FI / GEOFIT / Défis & Stratégies) who are providing delegated project management (MOED).
