Established in 1952, the World Customs Organization is the sole independent intergovernmental organization competent in customs matters. Its mission is to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of customs administrations and to assist them in achieving national development objectives, particularly in the areas of trade facilitation, revenue collection, societal protection, and supply chain security.

The 183 WCO member customs administrations worldwide are responsible for processing 98% of global trade.

In 2019, the WCO launched a new project, “COLIBRI: General Aviation Monitoring and Control.” It was part of the “Cocaine Route” program, funded by the European Union, and included three components of capacity building and operational coordination.
